Great Northeast Blackout strikes Boston.
November 9, 1965
The blackout begins at 5:21 p.m. It lasts more than 13 hours and leaves Boston and much of the Northeast (30 million people in seven states and parts of Canada) without electricity until energy begins to be restored at 9:08 p.m. The MBTA is able to restore service by 7:00 p.m.
